Born and educated in India, Uma Ramani completed her AMI 3-6 training in Hyderabad, India with Mr. A.M. Joosten and Mr. S.R. Swamy, who were both trained by Dr. Maria Montessori. Uma also holds the AMI 6-12 Diploma, a Bachelor of Science degree from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, a Master’s in Sociology from Annamalai University, India and a Master of Arts in Textiles from Cornell University, USA. She has over twelve years’ experience in AMI 3-6 classrooms in the US and has worked as coach in public Montessori schools in that country. Uma is Director of Training (3-6 Blended) at the Montessori Institute of North Texas (MINT), Dallas, Texas. Uma is passionate about the rights of children and the application of Montessori education in diverse settings. She spearheaded the design of AMI blended training and piloted the AMI 3-6 blended course at MINT in 2019. She coordinated the design of the Montessori Core Principles course and has directed this course at MINT since 2019. She is deeply involved in AMI EsF and designed the EsF Community Rooted Education (EsF CoRE) approach for grassroots level Early Childhood Education providers. She works closely with communities around the world to implement CoRE. Uma enjoys the study of Maria Montessori’s writings in the social context within which her work evolved and exploring the continued relevance of Montessori philosophy in the modern-day context, critically analyzing Montessori pedagogical principles and practice in the light of evolving scientific research.
