Become an AMI Certified Practitioner

Students who have completed the AMI Montessori for Dementia, Disability and Ageing Workshop are eligible to be assessed for competency as an AMI Montessori for Dementia, Disability and Ageing Certified Practitioner, to develop and implement this innovative intervention for people living with dementia, other disabilities and older adults and to serve as a resource for others in your care setting.  

The certification requirements for this course include:

  1. Attending the 2-day workshop Developing Montessori Environments for Dementia, Disability and Aged Care or equivalent
  2. Undertaking the Assessment Tasks, comprising:

    a. Aged Care Observation and Reflection (10 points)

    b. Creation of a 15-page Memory book (10 points)

    c. Spaced Retrieval plan (10 points)

    d. Case Study Action plan (10 points)

    e. 2 Real life case studies (45 points each case study)

    f. 1000-word Reflection essay (10 points)

    g. Objective observers report (points included in case studies)

    h. Multiple choice quiz (10 points)

  3. Submission of assessment tasks within the specified times (12 months from the date of the workshop or equivalent and within the specified timeframe for each assessment task)

Please note: Each assessment task is graded according to points. Students need to achieve 90% on all tasks to gain certification. Students have the opportunity to join a zoom support session which will be offered 4-6 months into the certification period. Attendance is not compulsory however; it is a good opportunity to clarify any issues and ask questions in relation to assessment tasks.

The AMI Montessori for Dementia, Disability and Ageing Workshop and certification assessment requirements do not qualify the student to teach or train others in Montessori for Dementia, Disability and Ageing.  An AMI Trainer or Auxiliary Trainer certification is required to teach the AMI Montessori for Dementia, Disability and Ageing curriculum.  Learn more about the Training of Trainers programme here.
